Nomination #1: Yanitza Osorio

My name is Yanitza Osorio and I am running for the position of Recording Secretary. I have been a Criminalist at the NYPD Laboratory for 12 years and I have seen how we have grown from a chapter with limited negotiable power to our own Local dedicated to enhancing our voice in real policy debates. This has inspired me to play an active role in the ongoing improvement of our Local and its many facets.

We are often asked, “Why belong to a union?” and the answer is simple: we must protect our power to shape our working lives. We, as a collective force, bring democracy into the workplace by giving our members a solid platform to hold our employers accountable if leadership decisions do not align with our best interests.

As a member of Local 3778, I want to strengthen our families with better benefits and due process. I want to ensure that our education and experience is a strong negotiable factor for increased salary wages. I have participated in meetings to revise job specifications for Criminalists and address pay inequities. I have been involved in increasing awareness and support for the 2020 Census, addressing workplace gender inequities, and providing online resources on education, mental health, and workplace reform. I see the position of recording secretary as an excellent way to be a part of a bigger team that is not only involved in our current member’s lives, but in also providing a better space for future members.

As recording secretary, I will be our Local’s information custodian. I will commit to ensuring that my duties are fulfilled in informing all members of leadership decisions affecting the Local. I will keep our members actively aware of all agenda items through improved and timely distribution of meeting minutes and ensure that all agreed actions are accurately carried out. I will also support and encourage Local members to do their best and strive to improve on any assigned function. I believe that it is vital to empower our Local with a voice that will stand up for our rights and in doing so, I hope to help form an even more visible and approachable representative body.

Nomination #2: Normisha Evans

Criminalist 1B. Police Laboratory.
26. Bronx born. Allentown, PA raised. Current Brooklyn resident. Pace University graduate. Avid reader!

Although I have only been a criminalist with the police lab for a little over 18 months I understand first hand how much our union does for us and the lengths they are willing to go to ensure fairness in our work lives and personal lives. When I received information that our local might dissolve back into Local 375 if we could not get a new eboard together my immediate thought was that we could not let that happen. I would have hated for us to have to fall under and get lost in a bigger local again. I did not want to lose the close knit feel and attention we’ve gotten being a part of Local 3778 and I didn’t want the hard work our previous eboard went through for us to go to waste. So I took it as a sense of duty to step up and show my interest. I am a bigger picture type person and knowing that no matter who wins we will have our eboard and we will be able to maintain our local, is all that matters in the end. When it comes to responsibility and doing what needs to be done, I’m that person and that is what I would bring to the table as your recording secretary.

Nomination #3: Rachel Lauth

Hello! My name is Rachel Lauth and I am a Criminalist II at the police laboratory. I have been with the laboratory and our union since November of 2016 and it would be an honor to serve as your recording secretary! I have been looking for a way to be more active in our union and feel that I would be a good fit for this position, as I already attend all meetings as a member and enjoy doing so! I am always reading the meeting notes, looking for things I may have missed during the meeting since I cannot always attend for the full length of them due to only being able to attend on lunch hour, and I would love to be able to be present for the meetings to take detailed notes to relay them to you all! Obviously, this is not all I would be doing, and I understand that I will be an important part of relaying any important messages to you through email as well!  Thank you for the nomination for this position and I hope that you will consider voting for me!
